Outcome Focused Therapy

Judy measures the effectiveness of her work in a variety of ways:

  • Judy conducts client self report measures such as the DASS and the VQ* (Valuing Questionnaire) at sessions 1, 6 and 10.
  • Judy evaluates each session with the client as to its effectiveness and alignment to goals, as well as assessing the level of connection between herself and the client
  • At session 6 and 10, she conducts a formal review with her client reflecting on original aims for therapy, and evaluating how these have been met, and clarifying goals for any future episode of therapy.
  • When working with adolescents, at session 6 and 10, Judy conducts formal reviews with appropriate caregivers to triangulate my evidence of effectiveness, and plans for future work

*Whereas the DASS (Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale) measures the frequency of a client's symptoms in these three areas of concern, the Valuing Questionnaire measures somewhat different factors.

The VQ measures how consistently an individual is living with their self determined values, and aligns with the ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) Model of therapy. The VQ doesn’t measure the presence or absence of distress, it measures the actions one takes to live in accordance with their values, rather than simply pleasurable outcomes”.Judy finds using the two self report measures provides a more thorough evaluation of the effectiveness of the therapy she offers, which aims to not simply to reduce distress, but to go further, and assist clients to live their preferred life.

Collaborative
